Mount Carmel celebrated the achievements of pupils during their annual Awards Evening.

The event began with an opening performance by Year 11 pupils Isobel and Mia of 'I Know Him So Well' from Chess.

The guest speaker was Jonathan Holden who is a former pupil of Mount Carmel R.C. High School. He is currently National Head of Employment and National Head of Education at Forbes Solicitors LLP. He explained how he had left university not initially sure what to do and after deciding to pursue law as a career worked extremely hard to be the best solicitor he could be working his way to his current position.

He has also represented GB in the European Triathlon Championships 8 times with a 9th selection next year.

Jonathan's message was that in life the only limitations are the ones we set ourselves. He suggested to Dream Big, you may not reach your goal but your life will be richer for trying.

The evening continued with Jonathan presenting subject and trophy awards to pupils who had a good attitude to learning as well as for attainment and achievement.

Special awards were then presented to pupils for outstanding involvement and achievement in school life. The Nicola Hughes memorial award for dedication to language studies was presented to Elecia Richardson by Nicola's daughter Mia and the Dean Desmond Award was presented to Mrs Christine Ashworth and Mrs Sue Porter for their long and outstanding service to Mount Carmel R.C. High School.

Headteacher Mr Bowers then addressed the audience. He thanked the school community for coming together to celebrate and recognise the many achievements of our pupils; for their attainment, achievement and for being role models for others.

He commented on how the Class of 2024 not only just achieved fantastic exam results but showed great resilience, courage and learned how to adapt to change.
He reminded them that Mount Carmel is more than a school, it truely is a family all caring for each other with Faith being a steady guide throughout helping everyone grow in all areas of life.

He thanked parents and carers for their support and hoped all pupils took away many happy memories from their time at school. He passed on our very best wishes to them all as they make the step their next step in life into further education or employment. He explained they each have a purpose in life and to be kind, considerate peacemakers, taking the values of Mount Carmel with them. He asked them to let their talents, hard work and faith guide them in life.

Mr Bowers extended thanks to Mount Carmel's dedicated governing body who work tirelessly for the good of all at Mount Carmel. He then thanked Chair of Governors Mr Dabrowski and the Governing Body for their continued dedicated support.

Head Boy Kieran and Head Girl Edie gave a vote of thanks to the speaker Jonathan Holden, staff & organisers of the event as well as parents/carers of the pupils.

Mount Carmel Chair of Governors Mr Andrew Dabrowski gave the final address of the evening. He described how Mount Carmel had high expectations for pupils and the quality of education they received was of a very high standard. He thanked the pupils for showing great resilience, kindness and compassion and that everyone was very proud of their achievements. He thanked Mr Bowers and all the staff at Mount Carmel for providing a challenging and supportive environment and he hoped parents were very proud of what their children had achieved.

The evening concluded with a photographic review of their five years at Mount Carmel.
