Mount Carmel Year 10 pupils were involved in a workshop delivered by Odd Arts who are a local theatre company based in Manchester that uses theatre to challenge inequalities & increase opportunities for people facing the greatest level of discrimination & disadvantage.
The session delivered was titled 'Mixed Up', which explores the Mixed Unclear and Unstable ideologies. All the performances are developed by working with people with lived experience & specialisms in the issues addressed as well as through research into latest learning and trends, and focus groups.
The workshop included a hard-hitting play that ended with many complex societal problems relating to MUU ideologies. Workshop participants use the play to try out solutions and early intervention techniques.
Mr Khan, Curriculum Leader of PSHCE commented "The Year 10's involved in the sessions were behaved impeccably and respectfully throughout, being active participants in the sessions, asking thought provoking questions and understanding the key aims of the sessions which were to increase awareness of how to support self and others at risk of hateful extremism; how to challenge and prevent hateful extremism and ways that they can reduce the risks."
