Mount Carmel arranged a Celebration Evening for the Year 11 leavers of 2020 (now Year 12 students) who unfortunately did not get the usual leaving and awards celebrations last summer due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Determined to mark their leaving in some way, all pupils were invited to come in to school with their families, our catering staff put on a lovely buffet for the celebration and a slideshow of photographs from their years at the school was playing throughout the evening.

Miss Taylor, Assistant Pastoral Leader for that year group and Mrs Munroe organised the event and ensured the hall was really nicely decorated with balloons and table decorations.

Form tutors and members of the senior leadership team were in attendance to see the pupils and find out what they were all doing since leaving Mount Carmel.

Subject trophies, special awards, joint awards and certificates were handed out along with GCSE certificates.

Special awards included the Mount Carmel Trophy for excellent GCSE performance in the face of adversity. This was awarded to James Crowson.

The Good Citizen Award was given to Adan Hartley for outstanding service to the school and its local community.

The Dean Desmond Award was posthumously awarded to Mr Tony Dobson RIP for his long standing service as a governor at Mount Carmel R.C. High School.

The Headteacher’s award for services to Mount Carmel as Head Boy and Head Girl 2019/20 was awarded to Matthew Ormerod and Caitlin Sage.

Other special awards included Memorial Awards donated in memory of loved ones who worked at or were associated with Mount Carmel. These are in memory of Nicola Hughes for dedication to language studies, Ken Hargreaves for outstanding achievement in science and Fred Bentley for achievement in geography.

Mr Bowers, Headteacher commented “After such an extremely disappointing and frustrating year we were determined to mark the leaving and moving on of the 2019/20 year group. It was so nice to see so many students turn up and discover what they are now doing and their plans for the future. We wish them all the very best.”
