Mount Carmel pupils helped design this years’ CARITAS Salford Diocese St Joseph’s Penny box during a Catholic schools partnership workshop held last Summer term.

There were 8 schools involved in the workshop hosted at St. Anne's & St. Joseph's R.C. Primary school in Accrington organised by their R.E. lead Mrs Perkins and Meriel Woodward from Caritas.

Meriel explained to the pupils that £65,000 had been raised in Salford Diocese during the St. Joseph's Penny collection in 2018 and the Lenten Appeal had started back in 1904. The boxes are distributed to 208 schools with 50,000 boxes being printed!

The brief was to creatively express the Catholic Social Teaching (CST) theme of 'Solidarity and the Common Good' with a strapline of 'No one left behind'.

Each school was asked to focus their design on one of 6 core values. Mount Carmel pupils Cian, Maria and Harrison were asked to focus on 'Making Stronger Communities', visualising how people feel connected with their community.
