Mount Carmel High School were delighted to be asked to judge the Hyndburn Chamber of Trade ‘Best Dressed Christmas Window’ competition this year.

Mount Carmel Head Girl Caitlin and Deputy Head Boys Chris and Lewis along with Headteacher Mr Bowers, his P.A. Mrs Munroe and Brendan Duffy President of the Hyndburn Chamber of Trade braved the elements and visited the shops and businesses to select the winners.

At the presentation event at Space 2 Make café Mr Duffy thanked all those who had entered and dressed up their windows. He commented on how this had really brightened up the area and hopefully increased commerce in the Borough over the festive season.

There were a record number of entries with 43 businesses participating in the competition this year which was more than double the entries from the previous competition.

Mount Carmel Headteacher Mr Bowers commented “It was an honour to be asked to judge the competition and a pleasure to see such creativity amongst businesses in this difficult economic climate. The standard of entries was exceptionally high and it made the judging process extremely difficult. There were however four entries which really deserve to be recognised for their concepts and originality.”

Brendan Duffy, Chris and Lewis then announced the winners, presenting them with certificates and prizes.

The winning entry in the ‘Best Dressed Christmas Window’ competition 2019 was awarded to Garlands Florists in Oswaldtwistle. They received £200 prize money and a certificate.

In 2nd place was Pudding Box in Accrington, 3rd place was Carers Link in Accrington and in 4th place was J2A Hairdressers in Accrington.
