For National Poetry Day on 6th October Mount Carmel arranged for spoken word poet and author, Nathan Parker to spend the day at school working with a group of KS3 pupils about his unlikely journey into the literary world from growing up in Blackpool.
Nathan has written books and poems covering a range of real life and often challenging issues aimed at a teenage audience.
He performed some of his work and helped create verses of group poetry. Our students got an insight into the few key elements needed to write a poem and gained new perspective into the world of modern poetry.
Nathan also kindly looked at some poetry written by pupils and spoke to many to inspire them to do more creative writing.
Mount Carmel arranged further activities for National Poetry Day including 'Poem in your Pocket', (tiny scrolls of poetry) and a large selection of poetry books available for pupils to read in the library.
