A visit to Smithills Farm in Bolton took place for 15 Year 10 Mount Carmel pupils as part of their GCSE Food & Nutrition coursework.

The purpose of the visit was to see animals in a working farm especially animals which are used for food production.

This was to deepen the understanding of animal husbandry, showing where food comes from & the processes involved. Including, managing the farm, and seeing live food manufacture like milking cows, milk production including pasteurisation, and bottling. Then converting milk into cream, yogurts, butter & ice cream.

The students got to feed animals which would be used in the meat industry & understand which stages they go through before being sold for food.

Along with holding and cuddling some of the younger animals in the farm

A great day was had by all!
