Mount Carmel have a packed transition programme in place for our partner primary schools including workshop projects, inter-primary quizzes, outreach work, school show visits and a range of partnership events. The ‘Next Steps’ programme begins in Year 5 continuing into Year 6 and helps pupils become familiar with life at secondary school.
A range of primary workshops have taken place at Mount Carmel over the Spring term.
A performing arts workshop with a theme of the Chinese New Year included drama and music activities for 60 pupils from St. Andrew’s. They interpreted the story of the willow plate pattern in movement and expression and created music with a Chinese theme.
St. Oswald’s R.C. primary Year 5 pupils came along to an English workshop and wrote some fabulous poems using methods such as Haiku, Kennings and Acrostic.
A Spanish workshop for Year 5 pupils from Moor End included brunch in a special Spanish cafe. Pupils learnt the words for items on the menu in one of the MFL classrooms including numbers and very important words such as “Hello”, “Thank You”, “Please” and “Goodbye”. They were then served their Spanish brunch by Mount Carmel pupil waiters in the Mount Carmel Twelve Star Diner.
A Healthy Lifestyles workshop is due to take place for Year 5 pupils at Sacred Heart which will include a yoga session and a food activity where they will make a health food bar in the Mount Carmel food technology facilities.
All pupils involved in our ‘Superstar’ workshops will be invited to a special Celebration Evening at Mount Carmel on Thursday 11th July at 6pm along with their parents and families when prizes and certificates will be presented.
