Mount Carmel were delighted to have a visit from Helen Earnshaw, Trees Officer and Robert Gabryszak (past pupil) from Prospects Foundation, a local Environmental Charity.

Prospects Foundation donated young trees for us to plant in suitable areas to improve the air quality near to Wordsworth Road by reducing the carbon in the atmosphere caused by traffic.

Approximately 90 pupils from geography, science and R.E. assisted in the planting of 450 trees throughout the day which linked in with the curriculum being taught in these departments where the students learnt about the use of natural resources, the science involved in reducing carbon and the importance of preserving God's creation as stewards of the planet.

The pupils worked incredibly hard to get them all planted in a day and really enjoyed the aspect of outdoor learning at the same time. Many said how much fun it was to work outside and hoped that we would repeat the experience again. As we move into the better weather, it is hoped more outdoor learning can take place in the green areas of school.

We would like to say a massive thank you to Prospects Foundation for their continued work and generous donations to community projects such as this and to Mr Blair, Mount Carmel's ECO co-ordinator who organised the arrangements of the day.
