Mount Carmel celebrated the 10th anniversary of the school chapel on Tuesday 23rd January 2024.

Rt Rev. John Arnold, Bishop of Salford and Fr. Francis Wadsworth co-celebrated Mass attended by staff, pupils and Governors from Mount Carmel along with invited guests from the Hyndburn Catholic Partnership of primary schools and the Diocese of Salford.

Headteacher Mr Bowers explained that in the 10 years since the chapel was created it has truly enhanced the Catholic Life of the school in many ways. As well as being regularly used to celebrate Mass and prepare our school community for important points in the liturgical calendar it has also been used as a space to meet and train chaplaincy and charity form representatives. It has provided a space for the YSVP group to meet and for bereavement counselling to take place. More recently it has been used as a place for mental health counselling and for anti-bullying ambassadors to meet.

Over the years the chapel has proved to be a quiet, peaceful sanctuary and a valuable place for prayer and comfort where both pupils and staff can support each other.

Mr Bowers asked Bishop John to bless the chapel and plaque that had been made to mark this special occasion in the school's history.

Guests were then invited into the school library where there were refreshments and a celebratory cake.

The school pupil ECO representatives were introduced to Bishop John and chatted to him about their current projects and plans before he was taken on a tour of school.

Thank you to Mr Davies, Curriculum Leader for Religious Education and Mrs Munroe for their organisation of the event.
