Mount Carmel Year 10 pupil William S. achieved an incredible silver medal at the Portimao Box Cup 2026 tournament. This international boxing competition was held at the Pavilhão Arena in Portimão, Portugal, from 29th to 31st May.

William boxed across three days of intense competition. He won his quarter-final match unanimously against a strong opponent from Spain. In the semi-finals, William faced a tough competitor from Ireland, securing his place in the final with a well-earned split-decision victory. In the final match, William faced another talented opponent from Spain. Despite putting up a fantastic, hard-fought battle, William narrowly missed out on the gold, coming away with a brilliant silver medal.
