Mount Carmel Year 11 pupil Mia P. attended the IFAF European Youth Championships Flag Football 2025 tournament representing Team GB in the U17 Girls section. The tournament was held in Innsbruck, Austria with national teams from across Europe competing.
Mia was initially selected as the backup Quarterback for the tournament and played very limited time in the first two group games as GB suffered heavy defeats to Finland and Czechia.
In the third and final group game, with GB again behind at half-time to Austria, Mia was put into the game and played the entire second half. She completed 11 of 14 passes and threw for two touchdowns in the second half, playing well enough for coaches to make a change and name her as the starting quarterback for the third and final day of the tournament. She led the team to a narrow 26-20 loss to Spain, before finishing the competition with a confident 25-12 victory over France in the seventh place playoff.
Congratulations to Mia who was selected by her teammates as Players' Player of the Tournament for Team GB for her consistent strong performances, and is already back to working hard on developing her game, looking ahead to 2026 with the hopes of keeping her spot as QB1 for next year's European Championships.
This weekend she will be representing her club team, Burnley Tornados, at the BAFA National Finals and we wish her and all the Tornados players and coaches the best of luck!
