NCS letter to parents

Dear Parent or Carer,

We have recently visited your son/daughter’s school to talk about the summer NCS programme and how they can get involved. Your son/daughter has expressed an interest in taking part and has requested this application pack. As well as providing you with more information, it also contains the application form which needs parental consent before posting directly to the NCS team in the envelope provided.

There are a limited number of funded places for the summer programmes which are offered on a first come, first served basis. The programme lasts for 2 weeks and includes:

• A 5 day, 4 night residential (Mon-Fri) at PGL Boreatton Park, Shropshire. Accommodation, food and transport is included.
• The second week (Mon-Fri) is non-residential and takes place at a local venue.

The NCS programme is a fantastic opportunity for your son/daughter to be part of a high value national initiative, to help them prepare for their future.
Some of the benefits in signing up to NCS include:

• Enhanced employability skills
• Developed leadership skills
• Project management skills
• Enhanced personal statements and CVs
• Taking part in volunteering and social action
• Enhancing your UCAS application, if applicable

The programme contribution cost is just £50, as the rest of the cost (around £1200 per student) is funded by the government. There is also a bursary scheme available for students entitled to free school meals and families experiencing significant financial hardship- please indicate this on your application form or call us on 01254 471230 to discuss further.
There are two start dates to choose from next summer, each programme lasting 2 weeks followed by 30 hours of Volunteering/Social Action Projects.

Monday 20th July
Monday 27th July

Part 1 Adventure – The 4 night residential at an activity centre at PGL Boreatton Park, Shropshire gives young people the opportunity to meet new people, develop team skills and move out of their comfort zones by having a go at a range of different activities. All meals and transport to the venue are provided.

Part 2 Make a Difference – This 5 day phase is non-residential and provides young people with increased independence and project management skills which will be used to plan their Social Action Projects. Meals and transport are not provided. After the week is complete, the young people will be supported whilst they work together to deliver at least 30 hours of Social Action within their local community.

Part 3 Graduation – Once the Social Action Projects are complete there will be a graduation event to celebrate the achievements of the young people. It is at this point that young people will be presented with their nationally recognised certificate and become an NCS Graduate.

Should you require any further information please contact us directly on 01254 471230 or have a look at the national website www.ncsyes.co.uk
