Stepping Up to Mount Carmel
Year 7 pupils who are offered a place at our school are given a copy of a Welcome leaflet called ‘Stepping Up to Mount Carmel’. This is sent out in March along with a letter from our Headteacher and is followed by an informal Welcome Evening where pupils and parents are given the opportunity to meet key members of staff, other parents and Year 7 and 8 pupils.
Later in the Summer term the Year 7 Achievement Co-ordinator visits the new pupils at their primary school to introduce herself, talk about transition arrangements and answer any queries. The Achievement Co-ordinator also speaks to the primary class teacher and gathers information to best place each pupil in the correct form group and academic class.
A ‘Step Up’ day takes place in July which is an invaluable way for the new pupils to get to know each other, find out which form group they will be placed in and to meet Mount Carmel pupils and staff. During this full day they will have lunch in the Twelve Star Diner and begin to experience their new timetable. The same evening we invite parents and pupils to attend a New Intake Evening where lots of invaluable information is provided.
Details of these events are sent to all pupils who are offered a year 7 place at Mount Carmel.
