Partnership Carol Concert 2016
School choirs, singers, readers and musicians from Mount Carmel, St. Oswald’s, St. Mary’s Oswaldtwistle, Sacred Heart, St. Mary’s Clayton-le-Moors and St. Anne’s & St. Joseph’s all came together in Mount Carmel’s school Hall for the annual Catholic Schools’ Partnership Carol Concert.
Mount Carmel’s Head Boy Callum Evans and Head Girl Ambar Siddique welcomed visitors at the beginning of the evening. The G.I.F.T. (Growing in Faith Together) team led the concert and Year 11 pupils Danyal Grasso and Niamh Kay both sang solo songs.
The concert was attended by 160 pupils along with Headteachers, teaching and support staff from all the schools. Over 250 family, friends and local residents watched the concert.
Each school sang individually as well as collectively on the stage next to a large Christmas tree and the concert also included congregational carols. Prayers for Hope, Love, Joy and Peace in our World were read by pupils from each school as candles on the Advent Wreath were lit. As the Christmas Candle (the final candle on the wreath) was lit a prayer for Jesus, the Light of the World was read.
Fr. Stamp and Fr. Howard from St. Anne’s Parish blessed candles for each visiting family to take home with them and light on Christmas day. School Chaplain Alana Murphy read a concluding prayer reminding everyone of the true meaning of Christmas.
Mount Carmel’s Parent Teacher Association served mince pies and refreshments in the school ‘Twelve Star Diner’ before and after the Carol Concert and held a prize raffle. A charity collection was also held with £35 in loose change donated to East Lancashire Hospice.
