Students at Mount Carmel study a number of subjects – all taught by specialist teachers and usually in specialist classrooms. All KS3 students study the same subjects which include English, mathematics, science, PE, ICT, a modern foreign language, design technology, history, geography, religious studies, art, drama and music.
At Ks4 students do not all follow exactly the same curriculum. All will be working towards external qualifications, including GCSEs, BTECs and OCR Nationals. All students study English, mathematics, science, PE, ICT, RE and citizenship and most will study a modern foreign language and either history or geography. During years 10 and 11 they will be assessed in many ways. Controlled assessments are a very important of all GCSE courses except mathematics. Generally, these must be completed in school during lessons. Most courses have a final examination in the summer of year 11. BTEC and OCR Nationals courses have coursework assessments that take place throughout years 10 and 11 and no examination.
